Vic Edelbrock Sr. Inducted into Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame

Vic Edelbrock Sr. was inducted in 1994 to the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame along with 6 others including Ed Iskenderian.

In 1938 Vic purchased a 32 Ford Roadster project car. Used as a daily driver it was modified and tuned and when he wasn’t happy with the performance he began to develop some new parts. Specifically a new aluminum manifold dubbed the Slingshot. It was installed in 1940 with dual Stromberg 97 carbs. Vic drove this car to the Muroc Dry Lake flats, would remove the fenders and windshield, and then race. Racing at speeds of 112 mph, he placed on a consistent basis and came in third for points that season.

In 1941 Vic came back to the flats, winning the season and three weeks before Pearl Harbour he set a record at Rosamond Dry Lake with a speed of 121.42 miles per hour.

Vic’s custom performance parts were now highly sought after amongst racers and his company, Edelbrock, took its first steps towards becoming an iconic American brand.

In 1950 at Bonneville flats the Bachelor-Xydias So-Cal Special running a V8-60 Flathead entitled “The Edelbrock Special” achieved a record 210.8962 mph run and a two way average of 208 mph.
